Sabine ISD provides Advanced Academic (Gifted/Talented) Services to eligible students in grades K – 12.

A talent pool is used in the early grades (K-2) to expose the students to divergent thinking skills and to allow time to observe studentsinan educational environment before identifying them for G/T services.

The school district’s services focus on the core curriculum areas – reading/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Advanced Academic Services provide a variety of opportunities to interact with other gifted/talented students. Examples include the Imagination Fair at LeTourneau University, the Academic Rodeo at the East Texas Fair in Tyler, and the Model United Nations that involves a large number of Region 7 ESC schools.

In addition to opportunities to interact with other G/T students, Sabine ISD encourages and supports students in individual study projects through mentoring and job shadowing. These are normally approved for seniors.

Questions regarding advanced academic (G/T) services may be directed to Nelda Woodfin, Curriculum Director; Janis Kirkpatrick, elementary GT teacher, or Joe Stokes, secondary GT teacher and coordinator.
